A Romantic Valentine’s Evening

With Valentine’s Day coming up in a few weeks, it may be time to consider laying in some romantic wines. Because we make a Pinot Noir Rosé, we’ll start there!

Our Oliva Vineyard provides us with all the fruit for this lively wine, which is created entirely of Pinot Noir grapes. This wine displays heady floral aromas, featuring apricot blossoms, while flavors of wild mountain strawberries, stone fruits, and mint notes tease the palate.

smoked-troutFor a romantic evening for two, we suggest beginning your evening with champagne (Dom Perignon?!) and some of these smoked trout and caper cream cheese toasts.

Inspired by the classic combination of bagels with lox and cream cheese, Tory Miller devised this variation using smoked, locally raised trout and homemade English muffins. It would be equally good on other breads, such as a baguette, or even the bagel that inspired it.

mushroom quicheFor the main course, and to pair with our Rosé, an over-the-top mushroom quiche:

“I love quiche, but it has to be several inches high and made right,” says star chef Thomas Keller. This high-rising version, which is adapted from a recipe in his Bouchon cookbook, just might be the perfect one, and it’s well worth the time it takes to prepare. Layering the sautéed mushrooms and shredded cheese ensures that they’re nicely distributed throughout the silky egg custard.

chocolate trufflesAnd finally—and classically—chocolate truffles from La Maison du Chocolat, available at Williams-Sonoma. The wine? A ruby port, which is sweet and full of berry flavors but also firm and powerful, is a classic match for chocolate. For instance, pour the Dow’s Ruby Port.

…now all that’s left is sweet words and loving gazes.

Enjoy!
